Jackson Pearce's video: YA Haters

Ok so big opinions on this, but basically this is what I think... lol

You go Jackson! I agree that YA is defiantly under rated and honestly I think that most anything that involves teens and young adults is under rated most of the time... I don't really understand why that is, the only think I can think of is that once you've gone through something you're tired of hearing more and more about it, in the form of books told from a protagonist sharing the story of their time in that age, especially if it was a bad time for you. But really, it is ridiculous and we shouldn't have these judgments at all! It really does bug me that people don't even take the time to read these books that they label and judge so quickly. Though honestly I have to admit that once and a while I'll find a book that I label at a book for "Younger Kids" that I just might not be interested in because of that, but I couldn't really see myself dissing the book or it's genre because I didn't want to read it.

I mean, just because I don't want to read it at this point in my life, and maybe I even find it a little silly as far as subject matter goes right now, that doesn't mean I wouldn't have loved it when I was that age and was going through the same things and could relate to it, and it doesn't mean that if I didn't already have loads to read and I picked it up I wouldn't like it now! Plus all books are not created equal and I think until you've given YA a good chance, reading a few books with different subjects, and that have preferably been recommended from different people, you can't judge it so assuredly.

Anywho, rant over! >_< Where did that come from? lol

Oh Also for those of you who don't know who Jackson pearce is in the first place, (shame shame), she is a YA author who's first book is due out next year! She's pretty much made of awesome, and just a very cool person, so check out her blog at this link....!

Outlining

So I've been trying to outline lately, but it's sooo hard you guys! e_e I guess it would have been easier if I'd done it at the beginning but now more and more questions are popping up and I'm not sure what to do! It's so hard to know what the right answers are and I want it to work, but right now it seems like it's not working at all! u_u Any advice from writers that have been there?

Twilight (Again...)

  • Nov. 28th, 2008 at 1:03 PM

OK, So like I said in my last post, I wrote this all out already! D8 But somehow I pressed a button or something and the page backspaced and it was lost forever because as we all know, when talking about Twilight, people tend to be very long winded and I hadn't paused long enough for it to save as draft. So now I have to re write it all out again, because I simply MUST give my opinion on the movie. Here we go.

First off, I loved it! The cast was so amazing, and when the movie started I almost started crying because it was just sooo perfect! Kristen Stewert defiantly deserves to win an Oscar (That's the movie one right? e_e) She was just so amazing and I give her my full support as my Bella!

And like I said all the cast was really great and matched my imagination really well. Billy Burke was great as Charlie, Taylor Laughner... I mean I had so many worries about him XD I was really just trying to accept him, but aside from being just a little goofier then I'd imagined Jacob being, he was excellent! And I think he'll grow out of that through the next two films because it's really from those books that I didn't see Jacob as goofie, if I'd only read the first book I think I wouldn't have cared, it;s just that the character gets so much deeper and I just want to make sure he'll be able to do that, but I have total faith in his acting ability and New Moon *screams* Is going to be completely amazing!

The Cullen's were sooo perfect and great, the house wasn't how I pictured it, but oh well, the Cullen's were terrific!! Alice, Emmet, and Carlyle were perfect! I LOVED Jasper in the baseball scene, the rest I would have pictured him a little less stiff, but I get why they did it, and Rosalie was really great too! Esme was good, but I hadn't really pictured her so I didn't have a strong reaction to her, but acting was great and she fit into their family well so I'm happy. :)

And now... Edward. This is a really hard one guys cause before I saw it I really wanted to take the movie as it was and the book as it was and just be happy with it, but once the movie started that pretty much flew out the theater doors...

Now when he comes in for the first time, I LOVE him. But for the rest of the movie, though I've now seen it 3 times and am OK with it, I just felt like he over acted a lot. =/ Now I understand why he acted the way he did, but a lot of the time I found myself laughing at moments that were supposed to be serious, and that bothered me. On the one hand it made the movie a little lighter, but I just feel like those scenes were important and maybe they should have been a little less obvious.

But I think also that there was way to much pressure put on him, and also maybe that's just how he felt Edward needed to be for THIS movie. Which is fine, even if I'm not thrilled about it. And sometimes you guys, he WAS Edward. Like in the very last scene when their at the dance, and when their dancing, he was like perfect Edward. So that makes me really believe in him and I think if we keep on showing him our support, he'll grow more for the next movies and I just think he'll get better now the pressure's off a little. Plus I heard that he saw the movie and wished he could do it over now that he knew the character better, and I think that's good in a way cause it'll help him do better if he knows the character better, plus Edward gets deeper in New Moon so he'll have to change the way he's acting a little.

Anyways props to Rob, cause we all know how hard he was trying, and really he was pretty good!

Over all I'm really happy with the movie! The third time I saw it I got the feeling I had when I read the book again and that made me really happy! Um... OH! I LOVED how the songs from the soundtrack fit into the movie! I wish they'd put a few more of them in just because I loved those moments so much where everyone in the theater like squealed all at once because we all recognized the song and were amazed at how they were used because we knew the words and everything and we all loved the songs from the start so it was just so much fun! And then we didn't know where they were going to pop up so when they did it just fueled the excitement we all had and it made the experience great!

As far as editing goes, yes they missed some stuff, especially the meadow scene which yes they did, but it was pretty diffrent so I'm still undecided about it, plus the glittering Rob was a little iffy >_< but pretty cool I mean that's how I pictured it I guess but I dunno was I the only one who thought it looked a little old special effect ish? Anyways they did leave some stuff out but I think they got the gist of the story and most of the important stuff was in there. And as far as book adaptions go, I think they did really well to staying with the book, so cheers to them for the enormous effort they put forth for this movie trying to make it great for us!

Overall 5 stars! It was just so great and even though there was some stuff I wasn't thrilled about, the movie was amazing, the cast was great, and really every time I see it I love it more and more and the stuff I wasn't so happy about just floats away! >_< So I'm really happy with it and I just hope that everyone likes it too, and isn't too upset with anything in it. But seriously if you are see it again and you wont be after a few showings! XD

NEWHO! With this, and Thanksgiving, I've been way to preoccupied to write much, but I've been trying to outline cause I think I should have outlined from the beginning and now I have to back track.... story of my life....

Hard work! But I think it'll be worth it once it's done. It's mostly hard because I'm not sure exactly what happens next so it's making me answer a lot of questions which is good and bad at the same time! >_< Anyways I'll keep working at it! Any advice from other writers?

P.S. I was working on an entry on the twilight movie and how it was distracting me from writing with it's brilliance, but I managed to press the back button and now I can't get the post back! SO I'll work on it in a while but it might be a few days before I get back the spirit to write it.

Hey everyone! I'm WriterGrrly and this is my first post! (Aren't you proud?)

Basically I just figured, "Hey there's a lot of teen writers out there, and I bet they could relate to my writing related troubles, so why not make a blog?!" And here we are!

More to come!
